Yes, these games were not the only exciting ones in the history of football, but it is their significance that made them make our list.
The Best Football Matches of All Time 5- Liverpool 4-0 Barcelona (2019)
In the first leg, at Camp Nou, Liverpool lost 3-0 to Barcelona, which meant they had a very small chance of advancing to the Champions League Final.
This meant that Liverpool needed to win 3-0 at Anfield just to equalize.
With just 7 minutes into the game, Divock Origi, scored a goal for the Reds, reviving their hopes.
The first half went on without any further goals.
In the second half, Andrew Robertson was substituted for Gini Wijnaldumwho scored two goals within 122 seconds!
Later, Origi, once again would score the winner for the reds leading them to the final.
Liverpool went on and won the Final 2-1 against Tottenham Hotspurs, which was their sixth Champions League title or European Cup in the club’s history.
The Best Football Matches of All Time 4- Manchester City 3-2 Queens Park Rangers (2012)
Definitely one of the best football matches of all time, the last game of the 2011/12 Premier League season between Manchester City and QPR.
The last leg had to decide which team would win the title, between Manchester City and Manchester United.
Goal difference was the only thing separating the two teams.
Wayne Rooney’s goal against Sunderland was enough to put Manchester United at the top.
However, Pablo Zabaleta had another opinion as he struck the first goal for the Citizens.
This would not last long however, as a mistake from Lescot lead to QPR’s equalizer and just after the game was at its 60th minute, Jamie Mackie takes the lead for QPR.
It looked as though City would perish, celebrations started by Manchester United fans.
But, Edin Dzeko kept the citizen’s hopes up by heading an equalizer for the hosts with just moments left for the game to finish.
This was still not enough for Man City to win the title for the first time since 1968, but Aguero’s sensational goal at the 93rd minute did.
The Best Football Matches of All Time 3- Barcelona 6-1 Paris Saint-Germain (2017)
Not only is this one of the best football matches of all time, it is also one of the greatest comebacks.
In Paris, PSG won 4 to nothing against a poorly performing Barcelona side and to make things worse, at the second leg at Camp Nou, Edison Cavani scored an important away goal for PSG, even though Barca were leading with three goals.
This meant that PSG almost most certainly will progress to the Quarter Finals.
However, with an attacking trio like Messi, Neymar and Suarez, you can never be too sure.
Neymar scores twice within the span of three minutes, reviving the hope of the Catalans with just one minute left before injury time.
Then out of the blue, Sergi Roberto fires the winner for his boyhood club at the last breaths of the game.
The Best Football Matches of All Time 2- Italy 4-3 West Germany (1970)
This is the only game that is not a club game included in our list of Best Football Matches, it had to be. This game was labelled as the game of the 20th century.
After just eight minutes, Italy was leading the score through a Roberto Boninsegna goal.
The remainder of the 90 were like that, however, a stoppage time equalizer from Karl-Heinz Schnellinger sent the game to the most thrilling thirty minutes of extra time.
Gerd Müller took the lead for the Germans in Extra time, but it would only last for four minutes, with Tarcisio Burgnich tying the score again at 2-2.
Müller again scores and giving Germany back the lead, but then two goals from the Italians saw them through to the final.
However, the final did not have a happy ending for the Italians as they lost 4-1 to Brazil.
